What is both a "way to drink" and a "place to drink"? "Kaku-uchi!" Originally a gathering place for coal miners, "kaku-uchi" (corner bar) has become a popular way for the masses to enjoy alcohol in the corners of liquor stores and taverns.
From November 17-19, 2023, you can explore the rich history of "kaku-uchi" at the 7th Sake Shop Kaku-uchi Fest, which will transform Ueno Onshi Park's Takenodai Plaza into a hub of "kaku-uchi-style" experiences. Seasoned sake professionals will showcase a diverse selection of beverages including sake, shochu, wine and beer, all starting at an affordable 300 yen per glass. This event not only celebrates Japanese beverages, but also introduces global visitors to our unique drinking culture.
Embark on a delightful journey through specially curated liquor booths, where you're invited to freely indulge in tastings and engage in conversations with the store owners. Complementing the drinks, there will be approximately 20 gourmet booths offering an array of delectable dishes and snacks, perfectly paired with your chosen libation. From the melt-in-your-mouth Stewed Kuroge Wagyu Beef Tendon to the irresistibly crispy yet tender Takoyaki featuring octopus from Hokuriku, there's a tantalizing array of options to savor at this extraordinary event!
Elevating the festivities, stage events will feature live performances by talented musicians, captivating the audience with acts like Kaede Aoyama, NAO&K・KING, and more. The event also adds an interactive twist with in-event ladder drinking, inviting you to guess the type of beverage you're tasting for a playful challenge that enhances your experience.
For an admission fee of ¥500 per adult (minors enter for free), you'll receive a wristband granting you the freedom to come and go as you please, as well as access to the tasting experiences. Please keep in mind that alcohol consumption is restricted to those aged 20 and above, and valid identification may be required upon entry to verify your age. Please remember to use the park's restroom facilities, as they are not available within the event area.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of 'Kaku-uchi Fest' and savor the cultural tapestry of Japanese beverages, gourmet delights, and captivating performances. Don't miss out on this unforgettable celebration of all things 'kaku-uchi!' #Kakufes
