This tourist attraction has been added into “My Plan”.
Today we introduce YANASEN, which is both an area and a tourist information center where you can experience the downtown atmosphere and Japanese culture in Yanaka.
Yanasen is a popular part of Tokyo's old downtown and is visited by many foreigners. Known for its friendly atmosphere, classic charm and narrow streets full of small shops, bars and restaurants, Yanasen covers the area around Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi, where traditional streets still remain.
In the center of Yanaka, you can find "YANESEN Tourist Information & Culture Center", where visitors can experience many aspects of Japanese culture, such as flower arrangement, calligraphy, traditional Japanese home cooking, Kabuki costumes, etc.
Aiming to provide a "once-in-a-lifetime encounter", YANASEN offers visitors experiences that touch the spirit of traditional Japanese culture and provides information about unique shops and sights in Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi.
Check out the carefully hand-crafted combs at Jusanya, boxwood combs with a soft touch that will last a lifetime. Or stop by Yanaka Senbei Shinzendo and check out the wide variety of crackers in this classic boutique with glass counters and containers in an old wooden atmosphere.
Stroll along the back streets filled with the charm of Yanesen and discover small galleries and quiet cafes. Visit the steps called "Yuyake Dandan" or Sunset Steps, a popular spot where you can look down at the cityscape tinted by the setting sun from the top of the steps and enjoy the retro atmosphere that is a symbolic view of Yanesen.
Located just north of Ueno, you can reach the Yanesen area by getting off at Ueno, Nippori, Nezu or Sendagi stations.
