Today we introduce the Ueno Toshogu Shrine Winter Peony event, a special wintertime feature of Taito City.
Located within the grounds of Ueno Toshogu Shrine, the Ueno Toshogu Peony Garden is a quiet oasis, home to a variety of plants and flowers that are native to Japan. Here, amid the bustle of the city, Nature takes center stage, with cherry blossoms, azaleas, and lotuses, as well as a number of rare and endangered species on display.
In addition to the various plants and flowers, the garden boasts a selection of paths and walkways that contribute to its delightful ambiance. Visitors to the garden can take guided tours or explore the garden on their own, and can also purchase seedlings and bulbs.
In the winter, the garden takes on a different hue. As the snow blankets the ground, tee-pee shaped frost protections made of straw allows visitors to enjoy viewing the flowers that have been completely unaffected by snow and other elements. The straw structure keeps the snow and rain from striking the flower pedals resulting in beautiful, serene flowers.
The 41st Ueno Toshogu Shrine Winter Peony event will operate from January 1st to February 23rd, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (last admission) Admission is 1000 yen for junior high students and older.
So come, wander the paths and walkways, warm yourself up with a cup of tea at the traditional Japanese tea house, take in the sights of flowers in the winter. And find a moment of tranquility In the Botanical Garden of Ueno Toshogu Shrine.
