Taito City’s Sumida River Fireworks Festival hasn’t been held since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, but this festival is considered as an event that truly symbolizes Tokyo’s summer. Today, we’ll tell you all about this explosive and exciting festival.

Held annually in the summer, Sumida River Fireworks Festival is one of the largest fireworks festival in Japan with over 20,000 fireworks launched during the festival. It is the main summer event in Tokyo, with more than 1 million visitors each year, prior to the Coronavirus. The “ooh” and “aah” reactions from the huge number of visitors adds to the stunning visuals and pounding echoes of the colorful rocket bursts.

Fireworks launched at the Sumida River Fireworks Festival include a variety of types. Some are shaped like flowers such as chrysanthemum, Japan’s national flower, and the peony. There are single-shot, continuous rockets, as well as others with some sort of gimmick. All are colorfully beautiful and exciting to watch!

Some of the more popular spots in Taito City to watch the fireworks from include Sensoji Temple and Sanyabori Park. Many choose to make hotel reservations and watch the brightly colored display from the privacy of their hotel rooms.

Be sure to join us in 2023 when the next Sumida River Fireworks Festival is scheduled to be held! Call out to your friends and go as a group, or make it a romantic experience for just the two of you. For more information on this event, be sure to check out the website below!
