Breakfast & brunch in Tokyo’s Ueno district

Start your day with a café visit before going to Ueno Park

Ueno Station is one of Tokyo’s big transport hubs and a popular base for exploring Tokyo. Get fueled for the day with a good breakfast. Here are three places in the Ueno area that open early and offer different kinds of breakfast.

Hard Rock Café Ueno

Come here if you are looking for an American style breakfast. The Café is located inside Ueno Station near the JR Central Gate, making it a convenient place to meet up in the morning. Have the American breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and salad or try the French toast with syrup. The breakfast menu is available 7:00 - 11:00. If you want to buy a Hard Rock souvenir, please note that the Rock Shop here opens a little later (Monday - Friday 10:00, Saturday & Sunday 9:00).

Café Lapin

Café Lapin is a local coffee shop that roasts its coffee beans. It is known for its artisan coffee and nice relaxed atmosphere. In the morning you can choose from a few sets with toast or a croissant. Don’t be deceived by the simple choices. Toast, salad, coffee and everything here is prepared with great care and very tasty. Morning sets are available until 11:00. If you come later in the day, you can have a sandwich or cake. You can also buy some of Café Lapin’s coffee beans.

Andersen Ueno

If you like bread and cakes, then start your day at the Andersen bakery. The shop has a good selection of breads and Danish pastry. There is a cafe area where you can eat and have a cup of coffee or tea. Make sure to take a good look their selection of baked goods. Andersen always bakes several cute panda bear shaped items, including a bread where every slice has a panda bear design. You can see Tokyo’s real panda bears just a short walk away at Ueno Zoo.
