Ueno Park is famous for its cherry blossoms. It is also home to some of the country’s best museums and the Tokyo University of the Arts. These places will provide the stage for the spring festival.

These are some of the special venues hosting concerts: Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Sogakudo Concert Hall of the Tokyo University of the Arts, Sogakudo of the Former Tokyo Music School, Ishibashi Memorial Hall, Ueno Gakuen, National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, The National Museum of Western Art, and The Ueno Royal Museum.

Spring Festival in Tokyo 2019 is taking place Friday, March 15 to Sunday, April 14, 2019. Tickets are available online via the event’s website

The Spring Festival presents music from a variety of genres. The first concerts this weekend for example will focus on Viennese Waltz, Japanese Songs, and Argentine Tango. Here is the list of all scheduled concerts

Some of these will be Museum Concerts, bringing together exhibitions and music. Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will host the first of the Museum Concerts on Sunday, March 17 with music inspired by the current special exhibition “Lineage of Eccentrics: The Miraculous World of Edo Painting”. This exhibition will be on show until Sunday, April 7, 2019. Other Museum Concerts will take you to the Tokyo National Museum, The Ueno Royal Museum, The National Museum of Western Art, and the National Museum of Nature and Science.

When you visit the Ueno Park area you might also come across some smaller free concerts. On March 29-31 at 11:00 and 13:30 an orchestra will play at the park’s Fountain Plaza. The musicians are not only playing for you. Visitors are welcome to conduct the orchestra.

Enjoy this spring in Tokyo!
