The Buddhist Sculptures of Daiho’onji, Kyoto: Masterpieces by Kaikei and Jokei

Daiho’onji Temple was built in northern Kyoto in the early 13th century, at the beginning of the Kamakura Period in Japanese history. This exhibition offers the opportunity to see masterpieces from the period including many sculptures that can usually not be seen such as the Sakyamuni Buddha of Daiho’onji Temple and sculptures of the ten major disciples of Buddha created by Kaikei.

Foujita: A Retrospective ― Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of his Death

Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita (1886-1968) was born in Japan, but lived and worked in France where he became a leading artist of the Ecole de Paris. The exhibition brings together works from all periods of Foujita’s life.

Bento are boxed lunches that many school children and office workers eat everyday. The food and the boxes that they are packed in often hold deep meaning for Japanese people. This exhibition looks at Japan’s bento food culture.
