Shitamachi Tanabata Festival
On the weekend (July 8 and 9) there will be food stalls, street performances, and a parade in Kappabashi. Enjoy the festival and walk through Kappabashi Hon-dori Street. It will be filled with colorful ornaments, streamers and bamboo, the typical decorations for the Tanabata festival. These decorations frame a special view of Tokyo Skytree looking back from Kappabashi towards Asakusa.

Iriya Asagao Matsuri – Morning Glory Flower Market
This big market is a festival celebrating morning glory flowers. Vendors set up around Iriya Koshimojin, the Shingen-ji Temple next to Iriya station. Morning glory, called Asagao in Japanese, has long been a very popular flower in Tokyo. In the summer you can see them growing on many balconies and terraces in the city.

Hozuki-Ichi Flower Market at Senso-ji Temple
At Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, July 10 is the Day of 46,000 Blessings. It is said that praying to Bodhisattva Kannon here on this day is equivalent to praying every day for 46,000 days. On July 9 and 10, the Hozuki-Ichi market for Chinese Lantern plants also takes place on the temple grounds.

Sumida River Fireworks
The history of this summer festival goes back to 1733. Over 20,000 fireworks will illuminate the sky over Sumida River near Asakusa this year. The fireworks are scheduled for 19:05 - 20:30. For more details please see http://sumidagawa-hanabi.com
