Iriya Kishimojin Temple

Iriya Kishimojin was founded in 1659 and is also called Butsuryuzan Shingen-ji. This is the story of Kishimojin. She was a ferocious evil goddess and ate children so Shaka Nyorai, the historical Buddha, hid her youngest child. This made Kishimojin feel the pain of losing a child and changed her heart. The good Kishimojin became the protector of children and the goddess of safe childbirth and parenting. The Iriya Asagao Matsuri (Morning Glory Flower Festival) takes place here every year in July.
