Experience Japanese culture for free in Asakusa

Join a workshop introducing Shamisen music or Japanese dance

Shamisen of Nagauta Workshop

The shamisen is a traditional Japanese string instrument. As the spelling of the name in Japanese indicates it has three strings. The body is small, like a banjo or a mandolin. Nagauta is traditional Japanese music that is played on shamisen. See professional Nagauta players perform and join their workshop. You can try to play shamisen yourself with their expert guidance.

Date & time: December 16, January 20, February 17(every third Sunday of the month) 60 minute workshops are offered starting from 11:30, 13:20, and 15:10.

Venue: Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center 6F, located in front of Senso-ji Temple´s Kaminarimon Gate

This workshop is organized by Arts Council Tokyo and co-organized by Taito City with the cooperation of the Nagauta Society.

Nihon Buyo - Japanese Dance Workshop

Nihon Buyo is a traditional form of Japanese dance with over 400 years of history. Join this workshop and try this graceful performing art yourself. A professional dancer will also perform the famous Fujimusume (Wisteria Maiden) dance. You can change into a yukata, a light kimono, and learn how to dance from a pro.
