The peony flower is called “botan” in Japanese. See the beautiful spring peonies at the Toshogu Shrine in Ueno Park. The shrine has its own Peony Garden.

There are still some late cherry blossoms left. Azalea are starting to bloom all around the city. They are called “tsutsuji” in Japanese. Some azalea plants have so many red, pink, or white flowers that you cannot see their green leaves anymore. Instead they become bright bursts of color.
