Chinowa-kuguri is a summer purification ceremony or “nagoshi-no-harae” that takes place in June on the last day of the month. People pass through a big ring made of cogon grass three times, their path creating a figure eight by first turning left, then right, and then left again. This is said to dispel disaster and bring good fortune.
