There are about 1200 “sakura” cheery trees in Ueno Park. When they start to bloom, many people come to the park for “hanami” cherry blossom viewing. Abbot Tenkai, the founder of Kanei-ji Temple in Ueno, planted sakura trees from Mount Yoshino here about 400 years ago. Since then, this has been a famous sakura spot in Tokyo.
