On March 18, 628, Bodhisattva Kannon manifested. Kannon is enshrined at Senso-ji Temple and the Jigen-e Ceremony celebrates the manifestation of Kannon. The Golden Dragon Dance is performed on the temple grounds. Senso-ji Temple’s honorific name is Kinryuzan, Mountain of the Golden Dragon. Its origin is associated with a legend: at the time of the manifestation of Bodhisattva Kannon, the Golden Dragon, a Buddhist protector, descended and let his golden scales shine.
