Misfortune and disaster is driven away by tossing beans at the Setsubun-kai ceremony. Then the Shichifukujin-no-mai dance is performed dedicated to Bodhisattva Kannon, the Dance of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan. This dance together with the Takara-no-mai Treasure Dance has been performed as the Fukuju-no-mai since 1964 in commemoration of the completion of Senso-ji Temple’s Hozomon Gate in April that year.
